Acatenango Volcano Hike

One of Guatemala’s 37 Volcanos, nestled above the clouds at 3,796m, hugging Fuego Volcano for an unforgettable experience. The two-day hike will be taking you to our AKT Basecamp II, which is located on the south side of Acatanengo and is one of the closest points to stay to the active Fuego Volcano in comparison to other Basecamps. Waking up overlooking a unique Volcano landscape in the distance, Fuego erupting day and night. We will be serving a warm meal around the campfire, hot chocolate into the night and a wild warm bowl for breakfast while enjoying the sun rising in this peaceful part of the mountain. All our experiences are designed for smaller groups ranging from two to 10 people, allowing for a more personal and intimate setting, an experience that you will remember forever.

Level of Experience
We designed the hike so everyone can do it. You don’t need any previous experience however we will be climbing 3,796m to our AKT Basecamp, which is not an easy ascent. But our experienced local guides and tailored service will help you along the way so you get enough breaks whenever needed. Ensure to wear hiking boots and layered clothes to keep you warm at night as temperatures can drop to 5C. Should you suffer from any high altitude sickness or other physical conditions, please let us know in advance to we can ensure your safety every step of the way.

Day 1
8:00 to 9:00 am - Leave Antigua
10:30 am - Arrival at camp, briefing, and final preparations
11:00 am - Start ascent
1:30 pm - Lunch
3:00 pm - Arrival at camp II
4:30 pm - Rest and sunset
6:00 pm - Dinner
8:00 pm - Bonfire and rest
Day 2
4:30 am - Begin the trek to the volcano summit
5:30 am- Reach the summit, rest with sunrise views
6:00 am - Descend to camp II for breakfast
8:00 am - Descend volcano to camp I
11:00 - 11:30 am- Arrive at camp I, rest
1:00 pm - Return to Antigua Guatemala

Cancellationes and Other Considerations

Clients who wish to cancel their reservation must do so 24 hours before the day of the tour.

Camp AKT is not responsible for the state of the weather, in case you do not experience views of the volcano due to fog or rain, the company is not liable.

Camp AKT does not return tour payment in the case of a guest not completing the ascent of the hike.

If a guest does not finish the ascent of the hike for any reason, they can return to the camp. The additional charge for staying at the camp is Q.30.00 per person.
